To: Whom it may concern
On behalf of the BEUM Association, an independent, non-government and non-profit organization, we have the great honor to invite your students/members/partners to the largest EU simulation in the world - Belgrade Model European Union – BEUM 2016, an interactive simulation enrolling university level students that will be held between 26th and 30th October 2016 in the premises of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in Belgrade.
This conference will gather over 300 students from all over the world who will take the roles of the EU countries’ Ministers, MEPs, lobbyists and journalists and, in that way, gain practical knowledge about the EU, as well as develop numerous personal skills.
This year, for the first time, the participants will have the opportunity to share their own opinion with the relevant European experts on the topic of Crisis in Europe. In the specially planned event named “Have Your Say”, participants will voice their views on different solutions for the current crisis.
26th – 30th of October 2016 National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia
Unique project in Southeastern Europe
Belgrade is the first city, and Serbia is the first non-EU country in Eastern Europe, in which the Model European Union (MEU) was organized since 2011. Our team looked up to students from France and Germany, who have been organizing Model EU in Strasbourg and Mainz for almost a decade. We are proud to say that after four very successful years, our Model EU became one of the largest and most recognized simulations of the European Union in the world.
BEUM 2016 topics
Apart from providing our participants with valuable knowledge and skills, we tend to introduce them with very current and interesting topics that will be discussed on the simulation. This year, the main focus will be on the economic and migrant crises, as well as Brexit. Participants simulating the work of the European Council on BEUM 2015 will be discussing the economic implications of Brexit on the EU, while the participants in the European Parliament and the Council of the EU will amend two legislative proposals: Regulation on the European Border and Coast Guard and Regulation on the European Union Agency for Asylum.
The novelty of this edition will be the simulation of the European Court of Justice whose participants will discuss the interesting case of Google vs. Spanish Data Protection Agency on the thought-provoking Right to be forgotten.
BEUM 2016 offers a valuable educational experience, by being an efficient tool for learning more about the decision making procedures within the EU. Students are given the opportunity to experience theory in practice, which will enable them to better understand the political cooperation as well as the composition of the EU bodies. Also, BEUM 2016 brings the best students from the whole world together, helping them to connect professionally and academically, through an interactive dialogue and exchanging of experiences. This year, we will connect our participants with the Continent’s most prominent experts and allow them to have their say on the current striking issues in Europe.
We are looking forward to meeting you in person in October. It will be our great pleasure to welcome your students/members/partners to BEUM 2016 conference! See you in Belgrade!
Applications are open until 15th September 2016 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. For further information on BEUM 2016, please visit http://www.belgrade-meu.org/.
